We were referred last week to a tiny little column in the West Highland Free Press that its founder, former editor and former proprietor, Macuilleam Himself, has been awarded CBE in the New Year's Honours List. It was, at best, a grudging acknowledgement and obvious confirmation that old sores, old scores and old grudges are never forgiven by Editor Ian.
For our part - and we are no fan of the monarchy and its groupies - Brian's award is not only thoroughly justified but also long overdue. Indeed, we go further and say that Brian's award should have been elevation to the House of Lords or, at the very least, a knighthood. Remember, Brian is the man who, single-handedly, saved the Harris Tweed industry from extinction.
The award has been a welcome change from the gongs usually awarded to functionaries, placemen and the thoroughly undeserving.
