WEST HIGHLAND FREE PRESS (20)

A few days ago,  while having a coffee break in town,  we came across last week's edition of the West Highland Free Press that another customer had left behind.  We had a quick swatch and soon made our way to the Editorial page,  the only part of the paper now worth reading.

Ian was in fine form,  ranting and raving about this nationalist government and its control-freakery for centralisation.  It was a splendid piece that emphasised Ian's reputation as one of the most accomplished journalists in the country.

It set us thinking,  though,  about Ian's political priorities these days.  A year or two back we went on strike and refused to order the WHFP any longer over Ian's savage dismissal of his then star columnists,  The Reverend Professor and Macuilleam Himself.  Actually,  it wasn't so much about those dismissals as about the fact that those star columnists weren't replaced by individuals of similar independent mind. Anyway,  the end result is that,  as we haven't really taken the paper since then,  we don't know Ian's views on Corbyn J and that very motley crew that is the Labour Party nowadays.

As we're going to keep track of this we have decided to give Ian our 90p per week again for reading his paper straight off the presses.  It is just desperately sad that those star columnists have not been re-engaged so that the bust-up must have been very bitter indeed.
