DR WILSON GOES FORTH! (7)

More on David 'Dave' Wilson's letter in the Stornoway Gazette following our blog 'Lewis SNP Press Officer (6).

The first thing we noted is that,  on this occasion,  Dave was writing in a personal capacity as he did not append the usual 'Lewis SNP Press Officer'  after his nom de plume.  Usually,  we get the whole shebang and a note that describes him as 'consultant to the international oil industry'.  Hmmm ...

Next,  the substance of Dave's correspondence.  He tells us that the Nationalist Government tender of the CalMac bidding process 'is being carried out in accordance with European legislation' and that is that.  What Dave forgets to add is that in 2005 the Nationalists were totally opposed to the previous tendering process by another administration and have completed not only a u-turn but also a full somersault.  Their nationalist heids must be sore with all this jumping about.

After that,  the lesson in law.  Dave bravely tells us that 'most civil law is based on precedence'.  That's the first we've heard of that and we cannot,  just cannot,  fathom, out what a legal opinion dated 2015 has to do with a legal opinion dated 2005.  If that is 'precedence',  as Dave maintains,  then he should forget both nationalist politics and 'the international oil industry'  for a while and take lessons in law and philosophy before he starts to shout his head off again.

As for us,  we would far rather the opinion of Professor Neil Kay who maintains that the whole tendering process is quite unnecessary under European Law.
