In our view - at least on the information available so far - it was pointless and quite inappropriate for the Director-General, Mr Entwhistle, to resign his post as he was fully entitled to rely on the Newsnight team to do their job properly. They were, after all, senior executives with, we would imagine, remuneration to match. Why should the Director-General take the blame for basic schoolboy howlers?
It is probably a case of the obvious and that is that Paxman and Co are not half as clever nor as bright as they think they are. They thought they were invincible. Now they know that they are just as fallible as we here on the shores of Loch Roag.
