THE FIRST MINISTER AND THE EUROPEAN COURT

On taking The Sun newspaper from the stalls today we saw the headline "Bloody Disgrace" about a Scottish life prisoner who was awarded £5000 or thereby by the European Court for delay in failed appeals.  The First Minister is quoted as saying that the award was "extremely disgraceful".  He went on,  in Parliament of all places,  that   "the point about opposing the award,  and it was opposed vigorously,  and pursuing the case indicates the seriousness with which the Scottish Government .... took the matter".

Regrettably,  it does nothing of the sort,  apart from the First Minister's thinking about the political fallout that was  inevitable. While the crime the prisoner was convicted of was a truly monstrous crime,  that is very much beside the point.  The point is that The Scottish Government,  of which The Wee Man is First Minister,  was the party to blame for the delay in the appeal and for which the award was made.

Whatever the situation, and  as surely as night follows day, we can trust the First Minister to lie and lie and lie and lie. Hitler utilised the exact same tactics.  Sadly,  and again like Hitler,  we cannot trust the First Minister to do anything else.
