This is the hottest topic in the Western Isles at the moment. Should it go ahead as proposed by those clowns who run the country in Edinburgh, it would mean a total ban on ALL forms of fishing in those areas designated, including a total ban on all recreational fishing.
It means in simple terms in the Western Isles that a youngster couldn't take his rod to the rocks to catch half a dozen cuddies for his sabhs or else he would find himself up before the beak in the criminal courts. It goes without saying that the Western Isles economy, so dependent on fishing, would be decimated overnight, never to recover. Further depopulation would be the inevitable result.
At least, for once in its death-like existence, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has woken up to the reality of what is proposed. However, those two eejits whom we have representing us at Holyrood and Westminster, Alasdair Allan and Angus Brendan MacNeil respectively, have yet to utter a solitary word in opposition to their own government's proposals so that one has to assume they are in agreement thereof.
Those crazy HPMA proposals could have come only from the Green lot together with the political representatives of City constituencies who have no idea whatsoever about country living. They wouldn't recognise The Minch from a drop of water on the inside of a cardboard box. With a bit of luck, the proposals will eventually toss Allan and MacNeil to life well away from where they and their type can cause no further political harm, something akin to permanent unemployment.
