WEST HIGHLAND FREE PRESS (23)

It is nearly four years now since we last wrote about the West Highland Free Press other than on former editor Ian McCormack's sad passing.  We lost a formidable journalist there - a journalist who was not afraid to say exactly what he thought and to hell with it.  Such are always the best journalists and it doesn't matter a toss whether you agree with them or not.  We have continued taking the WHFP from the stands ever since but we are now reconsidering.

The reason is that we can no longer fathom what the WHFP is about.  We simply haven't a clue.  It is a newspaper with no direction and terrified of saying anything that might offend someone,  somewhere. We don't know who the editor is,  if,  indeed,  the paper does have an editor.   What we know with absolute precision is that the WHFP is no longer relevant for us here in the Long Island.

It's in the last chance saloon.  Any direction is better than the sad offering we have nowadays.
