While, generally speaking, we are not ones to bow and grovel when awards are meted out - for the simple reason that many honours go to the quite undeserving - we are nevertheless delighted at the award of OBE conferred recently on Sheriff Colin Scott MacKenzie of Stornoway.
Colin is a most decent and humane individual and his work in assisting the less fortunate is, at last, recognised. Add to that his strong interest in the island over many years and we cannot think of a more deserving recipient.
Now hitting the 80 mark, we hope Colin Scott will be about for many more years to come.
