Carloway Estate Trust has been running our affairs officially since 01 May 2015, some 8 months now, so that it's time to take a closer look at what we have. We have two observations to make in this, the first part, of the blog. A lack of space means that we shall have to go into a second, continuation blog.
The very first observation to make is that the people of Borrowston, Garenin, Upper Carloway, Park Carloway, Dalmore and Dalbeg have been excluded as not belonging to the forerunner, Carloway Estates Ltd. This has split the community and, in our view, is a very wrong basis on which to progress.
The next observation is the continuing secrecy, a secrecy that would put Lodge Fortrose to shame and one that is utterly unacceptable. The community is like a mushroom, kept in the dark and fed a lot of todhar. Even the website tells us nothing, other than that the 'Estate Office' is somewhere in Knock!!! No further address, status or telephone number, nothing - all while the the registered address of the Trust is 28b Breasclete.
Those who run the Trust would do well to remember their responsibilities and be conversant with the legal implications of it all. The Trust is a formally constituted company under the Companies Acts and the consequences of bad management are many.
