What a week it has been for Editor Ian and his merry band at the WHFP. However, the other side of that coin is that Ian is in a stew all of his own making.
When Editor Ian got shot of The Reverend Professor some weeks ago, for writing something not only routine but utterly innocuous in his weekly column, little did he think that Macuilleam Himself would wade in supporting The Reverend Professor on 03 July and, by implication, criticising Editor Ian. All hell broke loose thereafter. Macuilleam Himself, the co-founder of the WHFP, got the chop immediately and the airwaves on Radio nan Gaidheal are still agog with the story. Another columnist left in despair.
There are many lessons to be learned from the circumstances. The first is that Editor Ian has no skin at all and we wonder about not only his business sense but also his state of mind. The second is that, up here, we are used to strong opinions and not being afraid to express them. The third is that the Gael doesn't remotely like this sort of treatment meted out and will surely take revenge on the paper. The other lessons will be more apparent in 12 months' time.
Editor Ian is from Kilmarnock so that may explain quite a lot.
