WEST HIGHLAND FREE PRESS (10)

We are acutely and embarrassingly aware that we are not the brightest so we now have to plead - yes,  plead - to be let into the secret of the very public obsession that the WHFP has with Lady Claire's Kinloch Lodge Hotel.  We have written several times about the matter and also as recently as last week.

In a thundering editorial (yes,  editorial) today,  Mr McCormack goes ballistic.  "When it comes to food",  says Ian,  "the Michelin is the top award.  A Michelin is not given lightly and some of the best chefs in the world have not been given one .........  while others have had theirs taken away.  Only 20 restaurants in the United Kingdom have two Michelin stars".

We,  ourselves,  haven't a clue who,  or what,  Michelin is,  or was,  other than the fat man who puts (very expensive) tyres on our tractor.  Thus,   we bow in astonishment to Ian's far superior knowledge of both Michelin food and the food business.   We had no idea whatever that he was a literary foodie  as well as an accomplished socialist writer.  Perhaps both things go so well together?  Either that or they are paying him far too much money as editor.

In the meantime,  we shall continue with old-style brothas in the morning and a celebratory salted herring for the Saturday tea.
