We see in today's Stornoway Gazette that the delightful editor, Melinda, has mistaken former local MSP and Scottish Government Minister, Alasdair Morrison, for the present MSP, Alasdair Allan. Mr Allan is certainly not without his detractors, ourselves included, and only the other day we saw him described by Brian Wilson, former MP and UK Government Minister, as an 'automaton'.
We cannot imagine a more serious libel than for anyone, let alone a former MSP, to be mistaken by a newspaper for Mr Allan. In our view, for this gravity of libel, damages of at least £1,000,000 should be awarded against the Gazette.
