THIS POLICE STATE (1)

We often think - albeit on those rather rare occasions when we actually do think - that we are as mad as anyone on Planet Earth.  However,  after reading the papers this morning,  we realise that we are relatively sane after all.

We refer,  of course,  to the young man who appeared the other day at Glasgow Sheriff charged with acting in a 'threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm'.  The man's alleged crime? Twittering 'think I might assassinate Alex Salmond' on the internet!!!!!

Our first reaction was automatic when  we choked on the porridge.  Our second reaction should have been outrage at the police but it wasn't as we have long since given up on the police nowadays showing  any sign of basic common sense. Our third reaction was absolute horror that the prosecution system  in Scotland could be so utterly stupid.

Let's hope that at least the Sheriff has retained some sense.
