CARLOWAY ESTATE TRUST (3)

We have still heard nothing further from our would-be proprietor and that does not augur well.  Unfortunately,   it is par for the course and we should now be asking those nominated as officers and members of the steering group what,  exactly,  is the position.  In our,  admittedly pessimistic, view it is unlikely there would be any significant change from our present proprietor,  Carloway Estates Ltd.

While,  generally,  there have been few problems with   the present proprietor over the years,  the fact remains that the estate factor plays his cards very close to his chest and that gives at least the impression of secrecy and unhelpfulness.  From what we have seen so far,  our would-be proprietor would play those exact,  same cards.

As far as we are aware - at least from the last information we had -  the officers and members of Carloway Estate Trust Steering Group are :-   Kenneth John MacLennan (Chairman and Spokesman),  Alexander  A MacDonald (Vice Chairman),  Noreen MacDonald (Secretary),  John B Ferguson (Treasurer),  Cathie Mary Macmillan (Deputy Spokesman)   and  James Flint,  Ranald Fraser,  Jane Hunt,  Danny Lawrence,  David Macarthur,  Murdo MacIver and Malcolm MacKay,  all members.

  1. I cannot wait until Carloway Estate gets bought over by the community. Not only will it reverse population decline but it will also create jobs for the community, generate revenue for the community and eliminate landlordism. To date, no community buyout in Scotland has failed and if it wasn't for Labour introducing the 2003 Land Reform (Scotland) Act we probably wouldn't be in a position today to take this massive opportunity.
