We had quite a bit of fun reading the papers today and not least the newspaper that propelled the Reverend Iain D Campbell straight on to the front page nationally. That is quite an achievement nowadays and especially when there is nothing salacious to report about the minister either.
The cause of our merriment was the good reverend's complaint that he found the term "Wee Frees" quite offensive when repeated apparently freely and ad nauseam. Quite why Reverend Campbell found such a term offensive, he didn't really say, but, then again, he is the Minister of Point Free Church and there is nothing more likely to unhinge anyone than being a Free Church minister in Point.
The Rubhaich, like the Bacaich, are strange people, in particular those who take religion seriously. These island east-coasters (and certainly not forgetting North Tolsta) are not like people from the West of Lewis where religion is kept at arm's length from the soul. Reverend Campbell should really come to grips with the fact that we are ALL ridiculous, whether that be government, newspapers, judiciary, church ministers or whatever.
We recall only too readily the Back Free Church minister of some years ago who was nick-named Force Ten for the ferocity that blew from his pulpit. If Reverend Campbell is not careful, he will soon be nick-named Force Twelve.
