The big news story of the moment is the arrest yesterday of Peter Murrell, former Chief Executive of the Scottish National Party and husband of Nicola Sturgeon.
We know nothing more than anyone else about the investigation. However, we are concerned even at this early stage about the enormous allocation of Police resources to an investigation that has gone way, way over the top. Mr Murrell may not be the most likeable of individuals but what has happened is not right. There should have been a much more civilised approach to the investigation.
It's a pity that Poileas Alba cannot dedicate the same vigour to normal, everyday policing that would make communities infinitely safer places in which to live.
