So, the starting pistol has been fired. We have three runners (1) Humza Yousaf, MSP for somewhere in Glasgow (2) Kate Forbes, MSP for a Highland constituency and (3) Ash Regan, MSP for somewhere else.
Humza, Cabinet Secretary for Incompetence, Ill-Health and No Social Care, is a well-known buffoon. Not only has he has a big mouth to match his incompetence but, in thinking of himself as First Minister material, he is also utterly delusional into the bargain. Some years back, he deliberately missed the vote on what is known as Gay Marriage as the Muslim Community, of which he is a member, was ill-disposed towards the idea. This is now coming back to haunt him.
Kate Forbes has caused a great deal of anguish lately with her views on Gay Marriage, and justly so. She said just the other day that, had she been an MSP at the time, she would have voted against Gay Marriage. In other words, she would have denied the gay community a basic human right available to everyone else together with the benefits, financial and otherwise, that go along with such right. That, in a word, is wrong.
Not only are Kate's Wee Free views the thinking of the dinosaur but they are also hugely discriminatory against the gay community. The European Court of Human Rights would condemn such discrimination without hesitation and even our own repressive and regressive Court of Session would find it difficult to support Kate's views - and that's saying something. She must seriously consider now whether her hardcore Wee Free beliefs are compatible with life in politics in a pluralistic society. From where we stand, it doesn't look as if such views are appropriate in any lawmaker, far less the High Heid Yin.
Kate, however, doesn't leave it at that. She has also expressed her strong views on having children outside of marriage showing her as quite an intolerant woman altogether. Really, is it any of Ms Forbes's business when, and when not, to have children? Indeed, the more we hear from her, the more we go off her, big style. The Wee Frees have caused much grief and damage over these past 180 years of their existence and, with Kate about, today is very much a continuation of the status quo.
We don't know anything about Ash Regan. She comes across as yet another bland piece of typical SNP cardboard fodder with no hinterland whatsoever and with crazy ideas to match.
Who would we vote for? None of the above, not by a million country miles. Lord help us with any of this awful threesome.
We're in for another rollercoaster.
