ERIK JORGEN OSTERGAARD (CALMAC) ( 2)

As we suspected,  following on from our blog about Erik Ostergaard's appointment as CalMac Chairman  a few days ago,  the pressure is ramping up.

It has now been confirmed that this deranged Scottish Government has sought advice from an international firm of bean-counters,  Ernst & Young,  as to how to run Clyde and West Coast ferries.  It appears that the writing is on the wall for CalMac as we know it and most certainly so if Nationalist Ministers have anything to do with it.

During this process,  a most interesting statistic has emerged.  In the 14 years from 1993 to 2007,  before the SNP got its hands on the Tiller of State,  12 ferries with a combined tonnage of 33,350 were built for the ferry operator.  In the 14 years from 2007 to 2021,  coinciding with  SNP rule,  only 5 ferries with a combined  tonnage of 16,188 were built for the ferry operator.

In other words,  more than twice the ferry capacity was built before SNP rule than after SNP rule.  It's a horrifying statistic and especially when ferry travel is infinitely more important for us here - and in every other Clyde and West Coast island - than ever before.  It's a shameful statistic but Nicola Sturgeon and her motley band of cowboys, cronies and incompetents are way beyond shame.  Also,  don't forget that Erik the Dane was a Director of the ferry procurer company,  Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd,  the dreaded CMAL,  since 2006.

As for the Scottish Government engaging the scandal-ridden firm of Ernst & Young in any consultation,   words really do fail. From BCCI onwards it's been one financial scandal after another with Ernst and Young,   a trend that continues to this day.  As we recall in the Western Isles only too well, the utter ineptitude of Ernst & Young in the fraudulent activities of  the Bank of Crooks and Conmen International - BCCI - cost us £24million in  deposits lost by our own woeful Council.

Erik will fit in nicely.
