Truly, words fail us over this spat between the Scottish Government and the Republic of Ireland over the 'enforcement action' the Scottish nationalist government has threatened if the Irish continue to fish within the 12 nautical-mile limit around the rocky outcrop of Rockall and where the Irish have fished unmolested for decades. It falls straight into the category of 'You Couldn't Make It Up'.
We really don't know what the nationalist politicians are going to 'enforce' the threat with. Currently, the Scottish Government has three Marine Protection Vessels (1) MPV Minna (2) MPV Hirta and (3) MPV Jura. As we write, the Hirta is off the Eye Peninsula, the Minna is in the Firth of Clyde and the Jura is off Aberdeen.
All that's left, we suppose, is one of the nuclear-powered submarines from Faslane. The bigger problem, however, is that Nicola's tiny fingers are not allowed anywhere near the nuclear button so she's stuck between Rockall and a hard place.
We know the Nats have lost out hugely to the avaricious East Coast fishermen but picking a fight with your friends is as stupid as stupid gets.
