LEWIS FREE CHURCH ELDER IN COURT

We were disinclined to believe this story at first but,  slowly and surely,  we have received reports from a number of usually reliable sources of a Free Church elder in Stornoway Sheriff Court some time earlier this year.  We don't - yet - know why but we are intrigued enough to think that there is more to this than meets the eye.

We have never before heard of a Free Church elder in a Stornoway courtroom so that the tale,  if true,  is most unusual.  While the circumstances appear to have a local basis we have been assured that the elder concerned is NOT one of our highly respected local brethren in either Carloway or Shawbost  and certainly no suggestion is made to the contrary.

Of course,  the circumstances could be entirely innocent and,  for the time being,  we must accept that this is so.  It's just that we're curious. We could have asked Murchadh Spagach for the information but Murchadh is part and parcel of the  local closed shop and most unlikely to reveal anything.  Murchadh tells us only what he wants us to know rather than we deserve to know.
