Well, the Oracle has spoken, the mountain has come to Mohammed - and we are more in the dark than ever.
In yesterday's WHFP, Editor Ian issued a front page 'Statement by the Editor'. Therein, the hapless editor told his readership that he 'agreed to the urging of my colleagues to ask him (The Reverend Professor) to moderate his language in future'. The Reverend Professor refused and he was sacked.
However, the matter didn't end there. He accused Macuilleam Himself, writing in support of The Reverend Professor, of 'putting the boot in' to the paper. Macuilleam, also, was sacked.
There are a number of lessons for Editor Ian. Firstly, the old adage of when you are in a hole, stop digging. Secondly, as editor, you, and not your 'colleagues' , are in charge of editorial content and you should have had the guts to tell them to get lost. Thirdly, you should not have acted in haste. Fourthly, you shouldn't sack a columnist just because his language might get slightly emotional at times. Fifthly, you shouldn't sack a columnist for 'putting the boot in' to his paymasters.
But will Ian learn? Absolutely not. It's pathetic.
