Only a matter of weeks ago, we wrote, yet again, about editor Mr McCormack's slavish devotion to Lady Claire and her fabulous Kinloch Lodge Hotel in Sleat. We hadn't quite grasped up till that point that Ian, good socialist that he is, was also a great fan of very expensive Michelin-starred food, especially food from Lady Claire's kitchen.
Ian simply amazed us with his knowledge of good food, making us speculate that he was being paid far too much for his labours at the WHFP. We never thought in a million years that Ian would inform the world in a thundering editorial that "the Michelin is the top award. A Michelin is not given lightly and some of the best chefs in the world have not been given one .......... while others have had theirs taken away".
However, perhaps Ian spaketh rather too soon. We read just the other day that a chef who goes by the name Marco Pierre White ladled into Michelin-starred restaurants, telling all and sundry that such haunts "are the most boring places on earth. They're trying too hard to be posh and are so precious" ....... while the Michelin inspectors who award such stars "have less knowledge (of food) than you".
Our own sentiments exactly. But where does that leave Ian fae Kilmarnock?
