We heard The Wee Man on the wireless this morning trying to be statesman-like on being hailed as the longest-serving First Minister since devolution. He still doesn't accept that he lied about membership of the European Union. We don't know what is worse - a man who will not admit to lying or a man who doesn't know when he has lied.
Be that as it may, our analysis of it remains that the nationalists have been in power not because the people want them in power as such, but because (a) Labour have been atrocious in Scotland since the death of Donald Dewar and (b) the Liberal vote collapsed to the nationalists at the last Holyrood election. The Wee Man should enjoy it while it lasts. The future doesn't bode well for him.
