This tale is getting ever more difficult for Fergus Ewing MSP, Winnie's dear boy and Rural Economy Secretary in The Stalinista's government.
It relates, of course, and as we previously reported, to Fergus's infamous dinners a year or two back with Lex Greensill of Greensill Capital and Sanjeev Gupta of Liberty Steel. We don't know what was discussed as - and as usual - the Scottish Government doesn't comment on awkward stories but the general view is that anything up to £500 million of Scottish Government money is at risk of imploding given the loans and grants and what have you handed to various companies controlled or influenced by those two chancers. It's quite a tale.
The tale is now compounded by the announcement two days ago by the Serious Fraud Office that it was investigating 'suspected fraud, fraudulent trading and money laundering' involving Gupta's trading entity, the Gupta Family Group Alliance. Add to that the investigation by the Financial Conduct Authority into Greensill Capital and the future doesn't look too rosy at all either for those concerned or for those who loaned those two any money.
What we would like to know is (a) what due diligence was made by Fergus on those two chancers before a solitary penny was released from the Scottish Government treasury (b) how much money is at stake and (c) why did Fergus allow himself to be wined and dined in such circumstances?
Your shout Fergus!
