Yesterday, during the SNP virtual annual conference, The Stalinette announced that the Scottish Government is giving every NHS and social care worker the sum of £500 as a 'one-off payment thank you for their extraordinary service' during the pandemic. The total will amount to some £180 million and, no doubt, we are all supposed to swoon with approval at the magnificence of the First Minister.
Up here, we certainly do not. Unquestionably, the award is a corrupt payment for voter approval at May's forthcoming Holyrood election and we hope that the public will easily see through it. By now, we know that the sight of The Stalinette bearing gifts is as corrupt as corrupt gets.
Those payments are, by definition, going to those fortunate enough still to be in a job. If The Stalinette was genuinely, rather than corruptly, serious about parting with such money, she would have made those payments to those who have lost out because of the pandemic, not to those whose lives have carried on as before.
It's a gross abuse of public money.
