Ian Blackford is the rotund, permanently-angry wee man who is MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber. He is instantly recognisable in the House of Commons by his appallingly bad manners, a trait he possesses with almost all of his SNP colleagues there. We understand Ian is, also, the SNP leader in the Commons.
But there is much more to Ian, a 'simple crofter' as he likes to describe himself, than that. Ian chairs funeral plan provider, Golden Charter Trust, from which he earns the astonishing sum of £3,247.25 a month for 8 hours work every three months. We took the calculator out to discover that that's an incredible £38,967 per year for 32 hours work or, broken down, an equally incredible £1,217.72 per hour!!!
We felt faint afterwards. But we consoled ourselves with the thought that at least those who have a funeral plan with Golden Charter Trust will be happy to know that their money is going straight into Ian's very deep pockets rather than towards the benefit of their own funeral plan.
Ian had also been chairman of Commsworld plc for £1,000 per month. That's £12,000 per year, small change by comparison. We looked at Commsworld's website to see what they are about but we came away utterly mystified. Frankly, we haven't a scooby do what Commsworld is.
Ian has also been Managing Director of Deutsche Bank, Germany's biggest bank which, according to reports, could go broke any day. Deutsche Bank is as dodgy as Ian's mad ramblings in the House of Commons.
Anyway, don't let us spoil the season's greetings. Happy Christmas, Ian!
