LOCKDOWN REBELLION (1)

The big story this evening is the point-blank refusal of Andy Burnham,  Mayor of Greater Manchester,  and colleagues in the North of England to engage with the Westminster government in its attempts to coerce the Greater Manchester area into its already-infamous Tier 3 administration over Covid,  something that would mean the destruction of the Manchester area economy literally at a stroke.  We're with Burnham and Manchester 100% of the way on this one.

According to Mayor Burnham,  the science behind this experiment is anything but proven.  Wee Burney was reported last week as eager and wanting to try the Tier experiment here in Scotland.  Well,  to quote Mandy Rice-Davies, she would,  wouldn't she?  Anything to repress the populace for Wee Burney - and the more repressive,  the better.

Also,  we cannot fathom out for a solitary second why Keir Starmer now wants even more lockdown than what the government is intending.  In our opinion,  he's wrong,  very wrong,  although intending well.    He should realise that the world moves forwards,  not backwards,  and that lockdown after lockdown can never be an option.  He should know that much after a long career in law and our criticism of his strategy is that he must,  simply must,  be seen as offering the public something different to Boris Johnson. He cannot justify what he is proposing.

Our view of Covid and to both governments' response remains.  There should have been a total closure of UK borders by the end of February at the latest with not a soul being allowed to arrive into the country after that and with a severe lockdown to follow for two months or so. What happened  was far too little,  far too late.  It was not,  exactly, as if Covid rained down on Boris Johnson & Co out of the blue,  was it?

These latest attempts at local lockdowns won't solve anything and will only create untold misery for millions.  Typical politicians,  in other words.
